Sightseeing

Vienna is the capital of Austria, but also the biggest city of the nation (with a population of 1.6 millions). Due to its past as a capital of a vast empire, it is packed with sightseeing attractions, things to do and places to go to. All that makes Vienna a "European grade A capital"…

Salzburg is a fairly recent "acquisition" of Austria: until 1816, it was an independent principality ruled by powerful Prince Archbishops. The first of them, St. Rupert, had founded Salzburg on the ruins of the lost Roman city.

Tyrol is among Austria's most touristy areas, because this is where many of the big ski resorts are. The high-society's choice is Kitzbühel, which is also famous for its ski races. St Anton is famous for more serious skiing. The Tyrolians have a strong sense of regional identity, which is expressed in many distinct features: their accent, cuisine and life-style.

The Salzkammergut is not a federal province, but an area shared between Salzburg and more so Upper Austria and Styria. It is famous for its scenery, picturesque villages and many lakes. It also has a very distinct culture, expressed in architecture, customs (including the traditional clothing) and cuisine.

Monasteries: Vorarlberg & Tyrol – Salzburg – Upper Austria – Lower Austria & Vienna – Carinthia – Styria. Most-visited Places to Go – National Parks – World Cultural Heritage Sites – Spas – Folk Museums – Top-Sights Vienna – Small Towns.

Resorts

First of all Austria is famous of its ski resort (Lech, Zurs, St Anton etc) which offer a bright variety of sports, culture, relaxation and entertainment on the highest level for all winter sports enthusiasts. The Austrian ski resort of Lech is part of the Arlberg Ski Area with access to 158 individual pistes.

Lech Ski Resort is:
Excellent for Expert Skiers;
Fantastic for Intermediate Skiers;
Good for Beginners;
Fantastic for Snowboarding. In addition to the skiing in Lech itself (260 km of pisted ski runs), the appropriate ski Lift Pass will allow you to ski or snowboard in the other Arlberg ski resorts of St. Anton am Arlberg, St Christoph am Arlberg, Stuben and Zürs.

St Anton is unique amongst ski resorts in holding three legendary reputations simultaneously. First there is its world class skiing, second there is the resort's reputation for the most hedonistic nightlife in any ski resort in the world, and third there is St Anton's status as a key pioneering resort in Alpine skiing.

Zurs a classic, and arguably Austria's most exclusive resort, with a long skiing history and beautiful scenery. This is the sort of place where the rich, famous and royal go when they are so confident that they do not feel a need to make the I can afford St Moritz/Gstaad statement. The resort has two Gault Millau rated restaurants. Ski School programme includes Big Foot Carving and Ski Guide.

Austria is famous for its summer resorts Bad Ishl-rich with mineral and mud baths sources! Another popular resort is Baden, famous with thermal spa!
